The illustration displays how residence places can be consereved in locations that are prone to flooding.
Overall, the presence of stopbank reduces flood level near houses. Conversely, area that lack a stopbank are more prone to significant levels of flooding; however, with proper resoultions the problem can be solved.
Areas that contain a stopbank accounts for lower flood levels, as the berm and floodgate prevents the 100-year flood level to reach civiled areas. Though, internal runoffs can establish flooding to buildings on the other side of the terrain. To solve this issue, habitiations floor levels are made quiet high to minimise the effect of floods on the building. That has created a freeboard of 300 mm between the food level and house level.
Habitats near rivers that lack a stopbank get severly effected from the rise of flood level, and internal runoffs. Yet, similar to areas that contain a stopbank, they tackled this problem by building high architectures, such that these residence are not prominently effected by an increase of flood levels over the next 100 years.
