The maps illustrate a pictorial view of a particular town located in the UK that was affected by flooding and two different solutions for that problem – relocation and dam construction. Overall, both solutions have their unique advantages and disadvantages regarding cost and the environment.
Looking at Figure 1, it is clear that there are three main areas near the river: industrial park, residental area, and commercial district. Because of the flooding these area were demaged, so as the possible solution of problem, relocation was repesented. By repositioning the areas up and down, the river environment might be maintained, but this solution might require much money.
In comparison, the second solution may cost less money. The areas would remain unchanged, and instead, new dams would be constructed on the north and west sides of the town. The dams would keep river water as the reservoir which might be one possible drawback as the huge land might be need. Additionally, new channels might be constructed across the town.
