The bar chart compares the use of different modes of transport for commuting to and from work in a European city in 1960, 1980 and 2000.
Overall, walking was the most popular means of transport in the early years and also in that period the least commonly used transport was the car accounted for the lowest proportion. In addition, in 1980, the percentage of people travelling by bus increased dramatically. However, by 2000, car had became the most popular mode of transport.
In 1960, approxmately 34% of commuters travelled on foot, whereas car had the smallest proportion at 6% only. Moreover, percentage of citizens by bicycle use constituted 26% which was smaller at about 10% than bus. Over time, by 1980, 27% of people commuted to work on a bus while proportion of travellers by foot had fallen by about half.
In 2000, the percentage of car users had grown drammaticly constituted 42%, at the same time, bicycle and foot had became the least popular modes of transport (bike 6% and foot 9%). Additionaly, proportion of bus users deacreased by around 10%, stood at 17%.
