The pie charts illustrate how popular each type of leisure activity was among European adults in two years 1985 and 1995. By and large, watching TV was probably the most favourite one as its percent accounted for approximately thirty in both years. Talking with friends or family was still present but occupied at different numbers. Significantly, so many more kinds of activity appeared newly in 1995.
First of all, in the green chart (1985), there were only five seperated areas for watching television, talking with friends, talking with family, eating out, and others. These section invaded for 32, 21, 18, 23, and 6 percent, respectively. It can be easily seen that people’s ways of entertaining were healthily sociable.
On the other hand, because of the existance of intelligent technology, pricisely computers, a new leisure activity was playing computer games appeared and immediately surged to 27 percent. Besides, I believe this is the reason for a deep fall of talking with one’s beloved family to only 3 percent. More than that, people tended to be more open to society which proved by the larger areas for talking with friends and eating out, these took 26 and 8 percent in turn. Then we have TV having attracted 30 percent of people to it, kind of steadily. And last is 2 percent for other things.
