The bar chart compares the favourite recreational activities of adolescents in Canada.
Overall, it is clear that boys show higher participation rates in most recreational activities. However, they show a stronger preference for sports and shopping, while girls prefer computer games and music.
In terms of activities with a significant gender gap, shopping is the most popular activity among boys, with the proportion reaching nearly 35%, whereas the figure for girls is only about one-seventh of this level. In addition, the percentage of boys who prefer sports is approximately two and a half times higher than that of girls.
Regarding the other two recreational activities, namely music and computer games, which are favoured by girls, the differences in percentages are not significant. The proportions of boys and girls who enjoy music are almost the same, at close to 20%. Meanwhile, the percentage of girls who prefer computer games is lower than that of boys, at around 14%.
