The given illustration depicts the change in a structure of a public library compared to 30 years ago. Overall, the formation of four rooms at each corner has not been changed, where as a purpose of each space has significantly changed.
Firstly, the most noticeable part is circular tables and chairs were removed in the centre. On the left hand side, new two identical couches are placed in a left-side room above. This room extended its size, and remodelled as a children’s room to enjoy fiction books and participate in storytelling events. The left computer games and resources are transfered into a left corner room below a children’s fiction room. The location of a door has been changed vertically. On the right hand side, they put some megazines and newspaper on the outside while they were stored in a room 30 years ago. Furthermore, the enquiry desk has been eliminated, instead, the authomatic self-service desks are placed on a hall way. The over shaped desk were reconstructed into a cafe for customers. Moreover, fiction books for adults are categorised on a side of the wall of a lecture room while adult non-fiction books has removed.
To sum up, new layout of a public library requires less human resources as an enquiry desk is replaced into a self-service. Furthermore, more spaces and furnitures are provided for children, while resources for an adult has been reduced.
