The given maps illustrate 2 different underground tunnel systems for cars in 2 Australian cities, from 1986 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2006.
Overall, there are several differences between 2 underground systems in 2 cities. The first system took a longer time but less amount of money to construct than the second one. Additionally, the previous underground system for cars was smaller in size and length.
To start with, the first system took 12 years and 555 millions to fully complete. The system came with 2 lanes, which was large enough for 2 cars to move each lane. Moreover, the tunnel system was dug 1,5 kilometers under the water and sand surface and it was 2,2 kilometers long in total.
Regarding the second tunnel system, it was constructed in only 4 years but took a doubled price of the first system’s cost. The total height and the lenth of the tunnel was about 2,2 kilometers and 3,6 kilometers, respectively. In addition, the size of this system was larger than the fisrt given one, which allowed 3 cars to move each way. Comparing to the fisrt system, this second tunnel system was located under the road and beneath a surface made of stone and clay.
