The diagram and pie chart give information about the intended length of people immigrating to the UK from 2000 to 2008 and causes for migration in 2008.
Overall, it is clear that there was an upward trend in the numbers of immigrants intending to stay in the UK below 4 years while the reverse pattern was true for over 4 years. In addition, the most reason why people migrated in 2008 was for their work.
Looking to the line chart, standing at the highest level in 2000 (150), the number of people immigrating over 4 years experienced a sharp increase and reached a peak at 250 in 2004 which remained unaltered in the 4 subsequent years. By contrast, these figures for below 4 years were virtually unchanged. Precisely, whereas the quantity of people with intention to stay 2 to 4 years was 150 in whole time, that of below 2 years oscillated at the vicinity of 50 people despite a slight rise to 100 in 2008.
Turning to reasons for migration, it is clear that the majority of people migrated due to their career, accounting for 38 %. Besides, the percentage of people migrating because of their study doubled that of accompanying/joining family, at 32%. Finally, there was a tiny fraction for other reasons and no reason stated, just 7%.
