The bar chart illustrates the proportion of time that Australian parents spent helping their children with various activities in 2013.
Overall, it is clear that in all the surveyed categories, fathers aided their children less than mothers did. Also of note is that while mothers spent most of their time helping their children dress and do homework, this was true for both parents in the case of playing games and preparing for bed.
To elaborate, an impressive 75% of mothers used their time to dress their children, compared to around 20% for both parents, while no more than 5% of fathers did the same. Such disparities can be seen in the figure for doing homework, with over 40% each for mothers and both parents, whereas only one-fourth of fathers did so.
Regarding the remainder, the percentage of fathers who spent their time helping their children play games and prepare for bed were the same, at 5% each, while the respective figures for mothers were 25% and 45%. A difference can be seen in the case of both parents, with nearly 70% of them playing video games with their children, which was higher than that of preparing for bed by a gap of around 20%.
