The given line graphs provide information about the percentage of people in four Asian nations residing in urban areas from 1970 to 2020, with forecasts for 2030 and 2040.
Overall, all the line graphs represent an increasing trend. The Malaysian and the Indonesian urban population have risen since the beginning to hit the peak in 2040. In contrast, the Philippine and the Thai population have fluctuated in the middle years but peaked during the same period.
In 1970, the city population for Malaysia and Indonesia stood at around 30% and 14% respectively. Then, the percentage of residents rose steadily to reach around 70% and 48% in 2020. Furthermore, they are predicted to peak at around 80% and 60% within the next two decades.
In contrary, the Philippine and the Thai city residents’ percentage fluctuated in the middle period. Starting at just over 30%, the Philippine population peaked at 48% in 1990, fell sharply, and rose again to reach the same level in 2030. Likewise, the Thai urban resident percentage was just below 20% in 1970, then rose to 28% in 1990, remained at the same level, and was around 30% in 2020. Besides, they are both forecasted to peak at around 50% and 40% in the year 2040.
