The line graph compares the number of passengers using four modes of public transport in a European city from 2000 to 2025.
Overall, buses had the highest figure at the beginning before finishing by far the lowest. Meanwhile, bicycle-sharing services and trams experienced a steady increase, overtaking buses, whereas the metro finished with by far the largest number of passengers.
In 2000, buses stood at just over 40 million and peaked at around 47 million by 2005 before decreasing gradually to 30 million passengers by 2025, recorded as the only mode of transport to experience a steady decline throughout the period. By contrast, the metro stood at 25 million and experienced a significant growth to approximately 60 million and finished by far the largest passenger numbers by the end.
Regarding the remaining types of transport, they had an upward trend, although it differed. Trams fluctuated at around 15 and 16 million passengers until 2010, whereas bicycle-sharing services increased gradually to 10 million, although it initially stood at just over 2 million. The gap between trams and bicycle-sharing services narrowed until it even disappeared by 2025,both finishing at around 32 million passengers.
