The graph gives information about the proportion of the population which are living in urban areas in four Asian countries (Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia) between 1970 and 2020.
Overall, the percentage of the population in cities increases in each country. Moreover, in the beginning Philippines was the dominant in the number of city residents, meanwhile, Indonesia lagged behind. As regarding in the future it is expected that majority of the population of Malaysia go to cities.
In details, all countries started approximately from 15 to 35 and in this figure showed a significant growth. The population of city inhabitants in Malaysia increased gradually until 1990 and then rose rapidly at around 80% respectively. In Indonesia increased in 1990 and in future will reach a peak at around 60%.
With regard to the Philippines and Thailand, the rate of people who live in cities in these countries fluctuated over the years. In 2040, about 50% of population of the Philippines will reside in cities and Thailand is projected to grow to 45%.
