Looking first at the period of 1994-1997, in which bananas had the same cost between the first and the last year in both Japan and France. In particular, the charge of these fruits rose significantly to a peak of 2.8 USD per kilogram (Upk) before falling back to 1.9 Upk in 1997, marking the most dramatic change in the whole chart. Meanwhile, the figure for France stayed unchanged, at around 1.7 Upk. Finally, Germany and the USA saw slight increases in the price of bananas, with the cost being 1.5 Upk and 1 Upk in the final year.
Moving into 1997-2004, where the categories experienced significant fluctuations. The price of bananas in Japan hovered around 2 Upk before dropping to a low of just over 1.5 Upk in 2001. Afterward, it increased sharply to 2.5 Upk in the final year, being twice as that in Germany and the USA in the same year. In contrast, the cost of the fruit in France fluctuated around 1,6 Upk until 2002, surpassing that in Japan in 2001, with a plummet to 1 Upk in 2003 and an increase back to 1.5 Upk at the end of the period. Meanwhile, the figure for Germany declined to only 1.1 Upk in 2004, which matched that for the USA in the last year. This is the only country where the cost of bananas relatively remained unchanged throughout that period.
