Looking at the graph in more detail, in 1996, the cost of bananas in Japan and France both started at $2 per kilogram. In the following years, the former country peaked at $3 by 1998, before experiencing a significant downward trend to $1.5, after which it fell back to $2.5 by 2004. By contrast, before decreasing to $1.5 dollars, the latter nation remained unchanged by the first three years, and then it recovered to $2 by 2000. After that, the price of bananas in France slightly fell to $1.7 by 2002, followed by a rise to $2 by the end of the period.
Moving onto the remaining countries, at the beginning of the period, bananas’ cost in Germany was $1.5, which was greater than that of the USA. From 1996 to 1998, the USA witnessed a rise in the price of bananas to approximately $1.3, and then it remained relatively stable at about $1.2 until the end of the period. Meanwhile, before undergoing a dramatic increase to $1.8 by 2002, the figure for Germany declined to roughly $1.3 by 1997, and then ending up at $1.8 by the last two years.
