The given chart illustrates the data about the fluctuation in the quantity and kinds of research conducted by U.S authority from 1980 to 2008. According to the provided graph, there are five major categories: Health, Space, Energy, General Science and Others.
Overall, after analysing the given chart, it can be observed that the expenditure on Health was the highest over this period, whilst the least amount of money was spent on researching General Science. In addition, there was a variation in the quantity of money spending on Energy research.
A cursory glance at the graph is enough to make it clear that in 1980, there was a remarkable escalation in the government expenditure on Health research that started from approximately $8 billion to reach to a brief decline over the next four years. However, it rose rapidly to a peak of nearly 22 billion dollars in 2004. Despite dipping down to approximately $18 billion in 2008, expenditure on Health research was so far the highest in the given timeline. On the contrary, the amount of money that was spent on General Science is the lowest, as it emerged in1980 with almost 3 billion dollars to increase slightly and recorded $ 5 billion in 2008.
Simultaneously, in 1980, the government spent $ 5 billion and 6 billion dollars on Energy and Space research respectively until the latter declined slightly to reach to the same level with Energy research from 1984 to 1988. Despite the amount of money spent on Space research had a gradual grow and registered roughly 8 billion dollars until the end of the given period, the costs of Energy research changed from a steady status to fluctuate from $ 5 billion to 7 billion dollars between 1992 and 2008 .Unlike the Energy research, the expenditure on ‘Other ‘research started in 1980 to decrease from $7 billion to reach to 5 billion dollars at the end of the provided period.
