The year 1983 witnessed the first and last winner who was Mexican with a total of 19.5 buns and hot dogs eaten. Similarly, in 1984 there was the first German woman, Birgit Felden, who won the competition with about 10 buns and hot dogs eaten in 15 minutes. Within 1984 and 1996, Americans continued to take the lead of the contest with the highest number of 21 hot dogs and buns eaten in 1996.
In 1997, the highest prize was attributed to a Japanese winner who ate a total amount of 22,25 of them in 15 minutes. In 1999, the US won the contest after two years of winning from Japan.
