The graphs depicts proportional change in the ownership of the electrical equipment and the quantity of time spent performing housework in households in a country for over 100 years. In general, the graph for the percentage of households with electrical appliances seems to have increased steady over the years. As a result, the time consumed for housework per week for a household has declined evidently.
The chart clearly illustrates that, in 1920, refrigerator were almost not owned by any households. Contrastingly, 30 percent of the houses had vacuum cleaners and 40 percent of the houses had washing machine. Through the years there has been rise in percentage of houses having these appliances. According to the graph, in the year 2019, between 60 and 70 percent houses have washing machine. And, it is interesting to see all most every household owns a refrigerator and a vacuum cleaner.
New appliances and technologies have made life easier and have significantly reduced the amount of time spent per week on housework like washing clothes, preparing meals, and cleaning. In the outset of the period, almost 50 percent of time was spent on household chores. Gradually, number of hours of housework reached just 10 percent in the 2019.
