The line graph illustrates the amount of emissions of carbon dioxide in four countries from 1967 to 2007.

Overall, Italy and Portugal had upward trend all over the period. In UK and Sweden there was a downward trend. Despite of the high initial rates of Sweden, by the end of the period, it equaled to rates of Portugal.

In 1967 the number of emissions of carbon dioxide in Italy stood at just over 4 tonnes while in the same year Portugal rates were about over 1 tonnes per person. Both countries rates gradually rose until 1997 exceeding their initial numbers up to over 2 times, then remained steady last years.

Highest rates were in UK at about just over 10 tonnes per person. Although over the 4 decades this country experienced decreasing of emission rates, in 2007 it remained a country with high pollution.

Sweden started at about just over 8 tonnes in 1967 and experienced significant rise up to 10 tonnes in first decade. From 1987 to 2007 Sweden saw sharply decreasing of rates of carbon dioxide emissions.
