The chart illustrates the quantity of electricity produced from four distinct energy sources in France over a 30-year interval starting 1980. Overall, electricity production from thermal and hydroelectric sources witnessed a downward trend, while the reverse was true for renewable and nuclear sources.
At the beginning, electricity generation from nuclear power stood at 70 TWh. This figure showed fluctuations and a massive leap in 2010, becoming the dominant source of electricity generation in France. Virtually no energy was produced from renewables energy sources until 1997. Following that year, there was an introduction of renewables-based electricity production, and a significant amount of electricity generated from natually replenishing resources increased gradually to 25 TW-h in 2010.
In contrast, the production of eletricity from thermal source was the most popular energey source suppling electricity needs in France in 1980, with production of roughly 125 TW-h. however, its production experienced a rapid drop to just below 50 TW-h over the next 30 years. Albeit less pronounced, hydroelectric-based electricity generation innitially held the second position, paralleling thermal production levels in 1980. While it experienced some fluctuations, its output remained relatively stable, droping slightly to around 60 TWh in 2010
