In 2015, CDs were the most popular method at about 15%, while streaming was around 8%. Downloads were lower, at about 4.5%. Over the next few years, streaming increased gradually, reaching around 10% in 2017 and about 11% in 2018.
On the other hand, CD purchases fell continuously from about 15% in 2015 to around 10% in 2018, and then dropped further to about 7% in 2020.
Downloads fluctuated during the period. They increased slightly to about 5% in 2016, then dropped to around 3% in 2017. After that, they rose to 6% in 2018 before falling again to about 4% in 2020. Downloads were the most changed method of the three.
By 2020, streaming became the most popular way to purchase music, at around 14%, while CDs were the least popular.
