The given line graph predicts how many learners tend to study three popular world languages (English, Spanish, Mandarin) over a decade, from 2020 to 2030, measured in millions of students.
Overall, all three figures are likely to increase gradually over a period. Another interesting point is that by 2030 Mandarin will have been the second most popular language instead of Spanish.
According to the graph, in the long run people will opt to study English than other languages. The number of participants of English will go up from around 550 million to 700 million, just before declining to 600 million. At the end of the period the figure for English students will have ended up with it’s peak point at 750 million, which is the highest level in whole period.
Looking at other to languages, by contrast, Spanish and Mandarin will have been chosen by less people. Starting at only 100 million, the number of Mandarin pupils are set to overtake the Spanish ones in 2026, becoming the second major language with just under 600 million students. However the trend for Spanish will increase gradually from 200 to 500 million over a given period.
