Overall, home was the most popular place for people to access the Internet throughout these periods; however, the percentage of individuals using the Internet at work, college, and libraries changed only slightly.
First and foremost, in 1998, 55 percent of people used the Internet from home, 28 percent used it at work, 20 percent used it at college, and over 10 percent used social media in the library.
By contrast, the proportion of people accessing the Internet at work was around 28% in both 1998 and 2000. After that, it decreased gradually to 26% in 2002 and only 16% in 2004.
College figures stayed quite stable with noticeable results, while in this group, home gained the highest percentage around these years with 56 percent, then the percentage dropped until 18 percent of people utilized the Internet in college.
