The line graph illustrates the volume of wheat exports from three regions – Canada, Australia and the European Community – over the period from 1985 to 1990.
Overall, the three regions followed distinct trends. Canada’s exports fluctuated considerably, Australia experienced a gradual decline, while the European Community showed a general upward trend and ended the period as the largest exporter.
In 1985, Canada exported approximately 19 million tons of wheat, compared with 15 million tons from Australia and nearly 16 million tons from the European Community. Although Canada’s figure dipped slightly to around 17 million tons in 1986, it then rose sharply to a peak of about 25 million tons in 1988. This was followed by a dramatic fall to below 15 million tons in 1989, before recovering to just under 20 million tons in the final year.
By contrast, Australia’s exports increased marginally to 16 million tons in 1986 but then declined steadily, reaching just over 10 million tons by 1990. Meanwhile, the European Community experienced consistent growth after an initial drop in 1986, with exports rising from 15 million tons in 1987-88 to 21 million tons at the end of the period.
