Overall, although in the first twelve years, people mainly came to spend their holidays, their numbers dropped significantly, and business, which was in the second position all those years, took the pole position. Meeting friends and relatives kept in the bottom all these years.

As the beginning of the concerned period, the visitors arriving for holiday on the USA were about seven million, in other words, approximately 2 million and 3.5 million over the business and meeting relatives. However, as the time passed, holiday went up to about 9 million until 1996 to become about 3 million and 4.5 million more than the business and meeting relatives respectively.

From then on, those whom visiting for holiday shows an eye-catching fall up to about 6.5 million in 2004, neck to neck with the numbers of people who had came to meet their relatives. From almost 2003, business as a purpose, was surpassing the holiday, which witnessed a comparatively slowly increase till the endpoint of the studied period. Finally, both met each other in 2009 with 8 million people. Throughout the time, meeting friends and relatives had increased gradually from 3.5 million, in 1989, to 7 million, in 2009.
