This bar chart illustrates the annual visitors data for three museums over a five-year period.
Overall, the figure for annual visitors to the Met Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum dipped down and up while the National-China Museum experienced an upward trend in the number of visitors.
First of all, the number of visitors to the Met museum halved until 2001, when it reached a low of 6 million. After stabilizing at 6 million one year later, the number grew significantly by over 8 million in the following three years, before peaking at over 14 million in 2005.
As can be seen, the number of visitors to the Edo-Tokyo Museum hit the peak of approximately 13 million and leveled off at this figure in the first two years. A considerable fall of nearly 7 million was seen in the figure between 2001 and 2003, compared with a moderate increase from over 6 million to 10 million in the remaining years.
In contrast, the first 4 years observed a sharp rise of approximately 70% in the number of visitors to the National-China Museum. The number remained the same at approximately 11 million between 2003 and 2004. However, a dramatic increase of nearly 5 million was seen in the figure one year later, when it finished at the highest point of nearly 16 million.
