The bar chart compares the percentages of international students graduating from universities in eight Canadian provinces in 2001 and 2006.
Overall, New Brunswick recorded the highest percentage of international graduates in both years, whereas Alberta had the lowest figure in 2006. In addition, all provinces experienced an increase over the period except Alberta, where the percentage declined slightly.
In 2001, New Brunswick had the highest proportion of international graduates, at around 7%, followed by Nova Scotia (approximately 6.5%) and Quebec (about 6%). British Columbia and Alberta recorded similar figures of roughly 5%, while Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario had lower percentages of around 4%, 3.5% and 3%, respectively.
By 2006, the proportion of international graduates had increased considerably in most provinces. New Brunswick remained the highest, rising to nearly 12%, while British Columbia and Nova Scotia also recorded significant increases to just over 10%. Quebec climbed to around 8.5%, and both Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador reached approximately 7%. Ontario also experienced moderate growth, increasing to about 6%. In contrast, Alberta was the only province to see a decline, falling slightly to just over 4%, making it the lowest among all the provinces.
