Overall, the the use of landlines significantly declined over the period, while social media texting increased tremendously.

In 2005, adults using landline voice calls was notably the highest at over 80%. The proportions then declined steadily to become the lowest by 2023 with less than 20% recorded users. Text messaging initially showed an increament from about 70% in 2005 to about 90% by 2010. This was followed by a five year plateau before plunging to about 60% by the end of the period.

On the other hand, Social media messaging had a totally different pattern. At first, no adults using it. However, it’s use immediately began to grow dramatically reaching a peak of 90% by 2023, surpassing all the others by the end of the 18 years.
