The line graph compares the proportion of exports from Australia to four other nations between 1990 and 2015. Overall, the export percentages to Japan and the US decreased over the period, while those to China and India increased. China showed the most dramatic growth.
Regarding the declining categories, exports to Japan accounted for the highest share in 1990 at about 27%, before falling steadily to around 18% in 2015. Similarly, the US figure fluctuated slightly but generally declined from approximately 15% to 10% by the end of the period.
In contrast, exports to China rose significantly. Starting at only around 3% in 1990, the figure increased gradually before surging after 2005, reaching about 30% in 2015, making China Australia’s largest export market. India had the lowest percentage at the beginning, at roughly 2%, but it climbed to nearly 10% in 2010 before dropping slightly to around 7% in 2015.
