Overall, it is clear that the share of both women and men saw an upward trend with women dominating in the graph. Moreover, the share of overweight men exceeded that of women at the end of the period.
As the graph shows, females accounted for around 23% in the 1993, which was about 5% higher that of males at the same time. Then, it experienced a significant rise of 10%, between 1993 and 1997, and then it continued its upward trend to just under 40% in 2001. After that, it fluctuated minimally between 33% and 36% until the end of the given period.
When it comes to males, the percentage of overweighted men composed 17% in the beginning od the period. After that, it registered a considerable increase of around 10%, in the five year period ending in 1998. Then, the rate of men remained unchanged until 2001, however, it saw a sharp climb of almost 10%, from 30% to 40% in 2005, exceeding the rate of overweighted females.
