The graph gives information about the proportion of individuals who accessed news in the USA through four categories:website, TV, print, and social media between 2012 and 2015. Overall, the percentage of people reading news in print rose slightly in the first part of the given period but declined after 2013. The figure for social media recorded a gradual increase. In contrast, TV showed a slight decline, whereas the use of websites remained unchanged with only minor fluctuations.
Looking at the increases first, the percentage of people accessing news on social media started at 20% in 2012, and then it continued its upward trend, reaching 32% in 2014 and 41% in 2015. Similarly, the share of individuals using websites grew marginally from 78% in 2012 to 81% in 2014; however, this was followed by a negligible decline to 80% in 2015.
By contrast, the proportions of people obtaining news from TV and print followed a downward trend. Despite increasing sharply from 38% to 48% in 2013, the news in print dropped to just under 25% in 2015. As for TV, the figure increased slightly from 76% in 2012 to 78% in 2013, after which it declined gradually to 74% by the end of the period.
