The line graph illustrates the percentage of people in the USA who accessed news through four types of media, namely websites, TV, print newspapers and social media, between 2012 and 2015.
Overall, online news had the highest percentage throughout the period, while TV news remained relatively stable. By contrast, print news declined significantly, whereas social media became increasingly popular.
In 2012, approximately 80% of people used websites to access news, followed closely by TV news at around 78%. Print newspapers accounted for 50%, although this figure began to decline afterwards. Meanwhile, social media started at only 20% and increased steadily over the period.
By 2015, online news still had the highest proportion at 80%, unchanged from 2012. TV news ranked second at roughly 76%, which was slightly lower than its initial figure. In contrast, print news fell dramatically to 23%, while social media rose sharply to 41%.
