The chart depicts the percentage of urban/suburban and rural households with Internet access in a European country between 1999 and 2004.
Overall, Internet access increased in both types of households throughout the period, with urban/suburban households consistently recording higher figures than rural households. The highest proportions for both groups were recorded in 2004.
It is evident that approximately 15% of urban/suburban households had Internet access in 1999. This figure then doubled to 30% in 2000, before rising to 40% and 50% in 2001 and 2002 respectively. Thereafter, the proportion increased more gradually, reaching around 52% in 2003 and approximately 55% in 2004.
In contrast, rural households experienced a steady increase over the same period. The figure stood at only about 3% in 1999 and rose slightly to 5% in 2000. It then reached 10% in 2001 and approximately 15% in 2002. Growth became more substantial thereafter, with the proportion climbing to around 25% in 2003 and 35% in 2004. Despite this significant growth, the percentage of rural households with Internet access remained considerably lower than that of urban/suburban households throughout the period.
