Overall, the percentage of households with internet access increased in both groups between 2011 and 2016, with urban and suburban households remaining higher than rural households during this period.
Regarding urban and suburban households, internet access increased at varying rates, from approximately 15% to 50% between 2011 and 2014. Meanwhile, internet access in rural households rose gradually from around 2% to 15% over the same period.
From 2014 onwards, the two categories grew at different rates. The urban and suburban growth rate slowed down, with internet access increasing by just 5 percentage points, while the rural growth rate increased more rapidly, rising by around 20 percentage points.
Despite the faster growth in rural households, internet access remained considerably higher in urban and suburban households by the end of the six year period.
