The bar chart provides information about the percentage of urban/suburban and rural households in a certain country that had Internet access over the period from 2011 to 2016.
Overall, Internet access increased gradually in both groups. Urban/suburban households had a considerably higher percentage of Internet access than rural households throughout the period. However, Internet access in rural households rose significantly towards the end of the period, so the gap between the two groups narrowed.
Looking first at urban/suburban households, the percentage with Internet access was significantly higher in 2016 than in 2011, rising from 15% to around 55%. Between 2013 and 2014, the figure rose considerably from 40% to 50%. By contrast, growth was much more modest in the following year, with the proportion increasing only slightly to just over 50% in 2015.
Turning to rural households, the figure significantly increased from roughly 2% in 2011 to around 36% in 2016. Growth became more pronounced towards the end of the period, with the proportion rising from approximately 15% in 2014 to 35% in 2016. Despite this significant increase, the figure for rural households remained roughly 20 percentage points below that for urban/suburban households.
