The line graph illustrates data about how many people were employed based on three economic categories in the UK over a decade from 2000 to 2010.
Overall, there were gradual upward trends in both the Public and Self-employed sectors, whereas the Private sector declined continuously over the given period.
Looking at the private sector in detail, employment stood at just under 50% in 2000 before declining steadily to 28% in 2008. After a sharp drop to 21% in the following year, it then leveled off.
In contrast, the self-employed sector had the lowest employment rate in 2000 at around 18%. It experienced a slight decline between 2002 and 2005 but then saw a steady year-on-year increase, finishing at 30% by 2010.
Finally, the public sector remained stable at 38% during the first three years before rising significantly to 48% in 2004. Although there was a slight drop in 2006, employment in this sector continued to rise gradually, peaking at just over 50% in 2010.
