The two line graphs compare the number of visits to the UK from France and North America for holiday and business purposes over the course of a year.
Overall, holiday travel attracted substantially more visitors than business travel throughout the year. Holiday visits showed much greater fluctuations, whereas business travel remained comparatively stable, with North America consistently recording higher figures than France.
For holiday travel, the number of visitors from North America climbed dramatically from around 0.5 million at the beginning of the year to a peak of approximately 3 million in July, before dropping back to about 0.5 million by December. Meanwhile, visits from France increased steadily from roughly 0.8 million to around 1.5 million in mid-year, before declining gradually to their initial level at the end of the year.
Business travel showed a similar but less pronounced pattern. Visits from France rose from approximately 0.05 million to around 0.2 million in April, dipped in July, recovered to the same level in October, and ended the year at about 0.15 million. The corresponding figures for North America remained consistently higher, starting at roughly 0.15 million before peaking to nearly 0.33 million by December.
