The line graph gives information about the proportion of total music sales using three different methods – streaming, downloads, and CD purchases – between 2011 and 2018.
Overall, purchase of CDs and downloads decreased over the given period of time, while for streams, it rose gradually. At the beginning of the given period, the percentage of CDs sales was the highest among all categories. Usage of downloads increased in the middle of the given period. However, in the final year, category of streams were the most widespread one.
To start with CDs, it began and peaked at around just over 50% in 2011. It declined considerably over a eight-year period and finally, fell slightly at 20% in 2018.
On the other hand, turning to segment of downloads, it started approximately at 35% in 2011. The sales figures of downloads experienced a slight growth and reached a peak of about 45% in 2014. Whereas, it decreased gradually over 5 years and it dropped at 30% in 2018. Moreover, the group of streams commenced at nearly 5% in 2011. Nevertheless, it went up steadily throughout the period and shot up to 40% in the 2018.
