The bar chart provides information about the marriage and divorce rates in the USA from 1970 to 2000 and the marital status of adult Americans is demonstrated in another bar chart, for 1970 and 2000.
To commence with, in 1970, 2.5 million marriages happened, whereas only 1 million divorces took place. In subsequent years, marriage numbers remained the same, while divorces increased by 0.4 million. In 1990, the number of marriages decreased from 2.5 million to approximately 2.4 million and divorce rates dropped from 1.4 million to nearly 1 million. Finally, in 2000 the divorce rate came at the same level of 1970, whilst the number of marriages in the USA decreased by 0.5million as compared to 1970.
Meanwhile, the percentage of adults who were married was the highest with 70% in 1970, which decreased to 60% in 2000. However, adults who are never married, widowed and divorced, the proportion was between 0% to 20% respectively.
Overall, it is evident that the marriage rate decreased over a period in the USA, while divorce rate fluctuated and came to the same level. Moreover, the percentage of adults who were married was the highest, whereas in divorce it was the least.
