This chart depicts the percentage data about five leisure activities in elderly in the United States.
Overall, most elderly people chose to watch TV in their free times, followed by hiking and reading, with both of them being significantly in the same category.
The percentage of reading rose from 30% to 40% from 1980 to 1990, followed by a significant drop and a sharp rise in 20 years relatively, reaching its peak at 60%. Having risen sharply, without any falls from 1980s to 2010s consistently, hiking managed to reach 80%, making it the most practised activity of all time. Having reached a peak of 50% in 1980, theatre activities fell dramatically to 30% in a decade, followed by a slight increase until 2010 at approximately 40%. The amount of elderly people who watch TV started at 60% in 1980s, after which it rose a little to 70% in 2000s, which is its peak. Surfing the Internet was dramatically high starting from 2000s, with the former experiencing a less rise.
