The graphs compare the average yearly income and the proportion of sales made online for four different fields in Brazil from 2015 to 2023.
Overall, food and groceries generated the highest revenue and showed an upward trend along with other sectors like electronics and appliances and clothing and apparel, while books and stationery exhibited a downward trend. However, books and stationery were the highest purchased items online, whereas foods and groceries were sold the least from the internet.
Notably, food and groceries collected 120 billion BRL in 2015, which increased steadily to about 140 billion BRL in 2019, and further rose to significanty higher than 160 billion BRL by 2023. Similarly, electronics and appliances produced around 70 billion BRL in 2015 and rose to almost 80 billion BRL in 2019. It recorded a sharp rise to more than 100 billion BRL in 2019, and about 110 billion BRL in 2023. Clothing and apparel only changed marginally thoughout the period, starting from 50 billion BRL and reached around 60 billion BRL. Conversely, books and stationery reduced their reveneu from 25 billion BRL in 2015 to 20 billion BRL in 2023.
Meanwhile, books and stationery were sold online nearly 25% in 2015, which rose in figure to 35% in 2019, and further to 55% in 2021 and around 60% in 2023. Electronics and apparel along with clothing and apparel showed a similar hike. However, food and groceries were sold at almost negligible proportion in 2015, which grew steadily and reached below 10% in 2021, and to 10% in 2023.
