The two line graphs illustrate the percentage of people in Australia attending the cinema and the total amount of money spent on cinema tickets, over the period from 1980 to 2015.
Overall, both cinema attendance and the amount of money spent on tickets increased over the given period, although the rise in spending was significantly steeper. Attendance grew steadily with some fluctuations, while spending showed rapid growth, particularly after 2005.
In 1980, around 35% of the population went to the cinema. This figure rose gradually, reaching about 50% in the late 1990s, before slightly dipping and then peaking at just over 70% in 2010. After that, attendance stabilized, ending the period just under 70%.
In terms of money spent, Australians spent approximately 200 AUD on tickets in 1980. This amount rose steadily until 2005, reaching about 500 AUD. However, from 2005 onwards, there was a sharp increase, with spending hitting 1200 AUD by 2015.
