The pie chart demonstrates changes in the spending habits of people in the UK between 1971 and 2001.
According to the chart, the biggest changes of spendings happened in car, food, restaurants and computer payments. While in 1971, the biggest percentage of spending, which is 44%, was dedicated to the food expenditure, in 2001 it decreased to 14%. In 1971 car expenses contributed to 22% of Englishmen’s payments, while in 2001 it skyrocketed to 43%. The growth in computer spendings is major- spendings surged from 2% in 1971 up to 12% in 2001. The payments for the restaurants doubled ( twofolded) in 2001 and became 14%. It is a sharp increase compared to 1971’s 7%.
Payments for the furniture and petrol didn’t fluctuate much between 1971 and 2001. In 1971 furniture spendings were 9% and in 2001 it slightly subsided to 8%. In 1971, 10% of spendings was dedicated to the petrol expenditures. In 2001, it gradually declined to 8%.
The sharp decline happened in book spendings. While in 1971 book spendings hold 6% in the spending habits in the UK, in 2001 it plummeted to 1%.
In conclusion, we can notice that spending on technological and service-based goods has increased drastically. Also, the decline in the food spending may be caused by the increasing of spendings on restaurants.
