The given charts compare the changes of value and employment status in the UK steel industry from 1970 to 2000. In general, as can be seen, all of these UK valuable criteria witnessed a decrease through the given period with the exception of the import segment. Additionally, there was a significant reduction in terms of employment background.
According to the value chart, the figures for demand and production experienced a downtrend from 1970 to 1990 which went down to roughly 110000 and 900000 million tones, respectively. In the next 10 years, both of these remained steady without any significant changes, with the latter ones at 100000 million tonnes and the former ones at 800000 million tonnes. In contrast, the import field grew substantially over the given period, reaching approximately 800000 in 2000.
Regarding the employment status, there was a remarkable decline through the time span, especially in the first 20 years, starting with a peak at around 50 thousands and lessening by about 30 thousands in 1990. Besides, it gradually reduced through the period, with more than 15 thousands employees in 2000.
