In the first stage, pollutants are released from housing, transport, factories, and power stations. These, including carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, mercurym and other compounds, rise to clouds, which absorb contaminations and cross countries and continent. As these polluted clouds travel long distances, they emit acid rain. This acidic rain falls onto hills and fields, forests, rivers, and lakes. As a result, trees and other plants are severely damaged, while the water supplies become contaminated. In the final stage, these pollutants enter the food chain through plants and aquatic life, leading to harmful effects on animals and humans.
