The line graph illustrates the results of a survey showing the reasons why people immigrated to the capital city of a particular country between 2000 and 2020.
Overall, most categories (study, family/friends and adventure) showed an upward trend over the period. However, immigration for employment was the only category that experienced a slight decline by the end of the timeframe.
To begin with, in 2000 the number of people moving for study was just over 20,000. This figure increased steadily to almost 50,000 by 2010 and then rose slightly to just above 50,000 in 2015. After that, it climbed sharply and reached nearly 90,000 in 2020, making it the fastest-growing reason overall.
The number of immigrants citing employment started at the highest point, around 60,000 in 2000. This figure grew significantly to over 90,000 in 2010. However, it declined slightly in the following years, ending the period at just under 90,000, which still remained relatively high.
Regarding the remaining categories, the adventure category remained stable throughout the period, starting and finishing at approximately 10,000. In contrast, immigration due to family or friends showed a gradual increase, rising from 10,000 in 2000 to around 20,000 by 2020.
