Overall, the percentage of Australian people who were born abroad fluctuated significantly over the measured period. Additionally, there was an escalation in the number of Asia regions and other regions, while the opposite trend was true for UK regions
To begin with, in 1976, the percentage of UK-born Australians was nearly 15 million, which was almost three times higher than the figure for those born in Asia. Over the following years, the percentage of Australians born in the UK kept falling which reached its lowest point at the end of the period with only 5 million, while those born in Asia rose steadily which reached a peak of 15 million in 2011

Meanwhile, the figures for Australians born in other regions fluctuated significantly over the period between above 10 million and below 15 million, however, rose overall to around 13 million in 2011. Starting at approximately 23 million in 1976, the total Australian regions decreased to around 20 million during the late eighties and early nineties, followed by an increase to exactly 25 million at the end of the period
