The line graph compares the number of employed people in three different sectors in the US—manufacturing, services, and agriculture—from 1975 to 1982 and provides a projection for 2025.
Overall, it is clear that the amount of employment in services rose noticeably over the period, while the figures for manufacturing and agriculture declined. The figure for services showed the greatest growth, whereas that for agriculture saw the greatest decrease.
Focusing on services, it started the period at 10 million employments in 1975, and it was followed by a dramatic rise to about 18 million employments in 1979. This figure is predicted to experience a rapid increase, reaching a peak of 90 million workers by 2025.
Regarding manufacturing and agriculture, the number of workers was relatively small in these sectors compared to services. The number of employments in manufacturing was 10 million in the initial year, compared to 80 million in agriculture. Although the labor force in manufacturing witnessed a sharp increase, climbing from 10 million to 40 million, until 1980, it will decline by 2025, dropping to 10 million again. The figure for agriculture remained stable between 1975 and 1979; it showed a considerable fall to roughly 42 million employments in 1979. Similarly, this number is projected to continue decreasing to 10 million in 2025.
