Overall, the production of paper and packaging increased over time, while the reverse is true for that of sawn-wood. The production of wood pulps remained stable towards the end of the period.
In 1980, roughly 225 million tonnes of paper and packages were produced; it was by far the largest production of wood goods. For the next 10 years, the number rose steadily before rapidly increasing to a striking 350 million tonnes by the end of the period. The production of wood pulps accounted for roughly 160 million tonnes in 1990. Despite a slight dip in 1990 to 150 million tones, the production number did not change.
As for sawn-wood, there were 200 million tonnes of it produced in 1980. However, it did not repeat the same upward trend as paper and packaging. Oppositely, the number plummeted down to around 130 million tonnes by the year 2000.
