Overall, the figure for classical music was the lowest for most of the period, while the highest position consistently represented hip-hop and electronic genres. Jazz was the most popular field at the beginning. However, the electronic and hip-hop became increasingly dominant over time.
Initially, the figures for hip-hop and electronic genres were at 25%. The former witnessed no change, while the latter fluctuated modestly until 2017. The level for electronic preferences increased sharply until 2020, before it plateaued at 45% for next 2 years. After the percentages of hip-hop streaming preferences reached at 45% by 2020, the figure dipped to just below 40%.
Considering other music preferences, the proportion for jazz decreased significantly to 12% in 2012, before it demonstrated a plateau for the next 2 years. Simultaneously, there was a small rise for classical music by 2014. The figure for the jazz increased slightly, whereas the classical music witnessed a modest fluctuation until the end.
