The graph displays the data set of athletes taking part in various sporting events conducted at a social center in Melbourne, Australia, between the years 2000 and 2020. Overall, various sports are represented: film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis, and musical performances; few events saw minor fluctuations, while some experienced drastic changes in participants over the 20-year span.
On one hand, activities such as martial arts and film club experienced the least deviation over the course of the study. Both martial arts (64) and film club (37) faced minor hiccups and retained most of their participants throughout the study.
However, on the other hand, sports such as table tennis and musical performances saw a significant increase in popularity and participation. Table tennis was the third most played sport during the start of the 2000s; however, it did face a slight downturn in participation in 2010, where figures touched a low of 20 players. That said, participation kept on increasing and stood at 55 in the year 2020, making it the second most played sport in the arena. Similarly, musical performances had no participants in the year 2000, but the social center did experience a rise in interest in this activity from 2005 before registering close to 20 musicians by the end of 2020. In stark contrast, amateur dramatics’ popularity declined, going from the third to the fifth most participated in event, with just under 10 actors by the end of the study.
